Jeff Bezos names former head of environmental think tank to lead $10 billion Earth Fund

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on Tuesday named the head of a high environmental deem tank because the CEO of his $10 billion Earth Fund.

In an Instagram submit, Bezos said Andrew Steer, who for the time being serves as President and CEO of the World Sources Institute, an environmental non-income, has agreed to lead the Earth Fund.

“Lauren and I are glad to maintain Andrew aboard and extremely energized about what lies forward for the Fund and our companions,” Bezos wrote in the submit, referring to his girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez. Sanchez has participated in earlier conferences with Earth Fund recipients, the Earth Fund said.

The Earth Fund, launched last February, is designed to fight the effects of climate alternate by issuing grants to scientists, activists and other organizations of their efforts to “defend and give protection to the natural world.” Final November, Bezos announced the first recipients of the Earth Fund, with groups receiving $791 million value of grants. Among the recipients had been the Nature Conservancy, Pure Sources Defense Council, the World Plant life and fauna Fund and the World Sources Institute.

Bezos actively participated in the interview path of and hired Steer, the Earth Fund said. In addition to heading up the World Sources Institute, Steer has deep ties to global groups targeted on environmental and financial points, to boot to to beforehand conserving senior posts on the World Monetary institution.

In a series of tweets, Steer said the Earth Fund will make investments in scientists, NGOs, activists and the deepest sector to additional model of most modern applied sciences, investments, protection alternate and habits.
